 Democracy - a town in Russia?


DEADLINE: 15th of February 2019

WHEN: From 10 days prior to the Danish General Election until the day after the election. We do not know the exact date for the election yet, but it must be held on or before 17th of June 2019


To apply for being a part of this project, please submit a 400-500 word statement to Frederikke Thorning at international@silba.dk explaining your motive for taking part in this project.

Do you have a nag for international projects about democracy or political rights? Do you think Russia is one of the most interesting countries in the world right now?  ..Then you should join our working group on “Democracy – a town in Russia?” and help plan, coordinate, and facilitate a 10-day study-trip for 10 Russian volunteers

You will:

  • Help Russian young democracy-workers increase their knowledge in Election Observation skills

  • Learn how to monitor the Danish General Election in 2019

  • Join a motivated engaged team of volunteers in executing the best knowledge/cultural exchange in Silba's history

  • Improve your knowledge of Danish electoral law and monitoring

  • Improve your skills in coordination and executing of study-trips and EOMs

In 2019 Silba have the opportunity to invite 10 active, motivated Russian young democracy-initiators to Denmark to observe the Danish parliamentary election. A cooperation between The Danish Foreign Policy Society and Silba received funding from the Wisti fund to invite the Russian NGO “Open Russia” to Denmark to train their skills in electoral observation and pursuing of democratic rights. The purpose of the visit is to exchange knowledge on democratic rights, duties, issues, and experiences. We will analyze the difference between situations in Russia and Denmark, learn from each other and create bridges between Danish and Russian youth working towards democracy and political rights. Furthermore, we want to encourage Russian/Danish cooperations in the future and create an inspiring working-environment and network to use in the future. 

We need:

  • Russian-speaking volunteers to join us on the election day as observers. 

  • Coordinators for the visit in Denmark the 10 days prior to the Parliamentary Elections to help plan, prepare, and facilitate. 

We expect that you:

  • Are between 18 and 35 years old

  • Are a member of Silba? You can become a member by clicking "become a member" on the top of the page. 

  • Motivation to make the best trip for our guests and build ground for future collaborations. 

  • Flexibility to work intensely in 15 days around the Danish parliamentary election (besides university).

  • It is not a requirement that you have previous experience in Silba!
